Making our house (or apartment) into a home- Repurposing Furniture

After the wedding we were able to get all of our stuff moved in to our new apartment. But with an empty apartment to fill and not much to fill it with was a challenge. We were lucky enough to get some great pieces from family members, thanks to our parents and sister-in-law!!! I am in the process of taking those repurposing them to make them our own. I have never been super crafty, I have had ideas, but I was not able to make them look as good in real life as I envisioned. This has been a growing period form me, but now after tackling a few crafty projects I am pretty much addicted. It is still all a work in progress. So far I have completed the bed frame and dresser, see the pictures below! My next big project will be the living room coffee table, end table, and the computer armoire. I will post about that once completed.

I have admit that I am terrible at remembering to take before pictures, so this is all I was able to get after I had already started painting the bed.

I still need to replace the hardware, but I haven’t had a chance yet!

For these pieces I used Kylon Spray paint and primer in Almond Satin: (I applied 2-3 coats depending on the coverage)

And Ralph Lauren Faux Technique Glaze in smoke color:

(applied using a rag to wipe it on)
