Turning a house into a home you love one DIY project at a time

The Haddow family is growing! We are expecting the arrival of our first human child mid-December (hoping for it to be any day now!). We are excited to be having a baby boy. In anticipation of our little ones arrival we have been working on the nursery.

Before we could start putting a nursery together we had to free up a room. Our house has three secondary bedrooms which we had as: guest room, man cave, and my craft room.  We decided to combine the craft room and man cave into one room (now called the Craft-Cave) to free up what used to be the craft room to convert to the nursery.

Since we are having a boy the original peach color on the walls had to go. We went with a neutral gray color so that it will be a good neutral color and will go with a variety of themes and accent colors as he grows.

We decided to go with a rustic woodlands theme (think rustic bears, moose, buffalo check print, evergreen trees, and mountains).

The nursery decor is a combination of store bought items and Haddow Design Co. made items.

Tour of Nursery:

The crib is a 4-in-1 convertible crib from Target.  The pillow we received from my sister in law.

The name above the crib is a Haddow Design Co creation (more details to come in future post) hung on a stick collected from my parents house. The stick is hung via wall anchors and the letters are securly tied to the stick. We have also pulled the bed away from the wall a little bit in the event that a letter ever fell.

Opposite the crib wall we have the dresser and glider. The dresser is the matching partner for the crib, Simmons Kids Monterey 4 Drawer Dresser with change top from Target. One really nice feature of this dresser is it came with the changing top that screws in to the back of the dresser. Once we are done with diaper changes, the changing top tray can easily be removed and leave a nice smooth dresser top and we didn’t have to pay extra to get the changing tray.

We purchased the DaVinci Olive Glider and Ottoman in Dark Grey from Buy Buy Baby.  I am already in love with the glider and cannot wait to rock Hudson to sleep at night.

The signs on this wall are from Hobby Lobby (Animal of the Woodlands and Don’t Wake the Bear), as well as the bear pillow in the glider.

To add more storage to the nursery we purchased two Home and Gardens Storage units in rustic grey. One 2 by 2 and one 3 by 1 and put them next to each other for more depth. You can find these type of storage units several places but we found the best price at Walmart. We also purchased the black storage baskets from Walmart too. This allows for storage for blankets, toys, shoes, and other miscellaneous items.

The signs on the wall above the storage units are also from Hobby Lobby (moose, bear, framed moose head).

Sitting on the storage shelves is a sweet mountain and tree light box that will be used as a night light. This we found at Target. The red metal H is yet another Hobby Lobby find.

The wood triangle shelves were also Hobby Lobby finds. The original plan was to sit the camera on the shelf but we had to mount the camera on the wall within the shelf for the best view of the crib. The three signs on this wall are Haddow Design Co made signs (more details to come in future post).

The plush bear rug we found on Amazon and thought it was the perfect finishing touch to the nursery. It it so soft and will be a good place for Hudson to sit and read as he gets bigger.

To paint it the desired gray color, we used Behr Premium Plus Ultra (paint and primer in one) in Classic Silver color from Home Depot. We used the FrogTape to trim out the windows, doors, ceiling, baseboards, and outlets.  And laid a plastic drop cloth in case of any  pain drips.
